Management of N-ecrotizing Fasciitis at a Tertiary Center Hospital

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Necrotizing fasciitis is a rapidly progressive inflammatory infection of the fascia with life threatening condition that requires immediate diagnosis and treatment. Aim of this study was to evaluate the management and the outcome of the patients with necrotizing fasciitis.

METHOD: This was a retrospective, descriptive study of duration of 3 years from 2019 to 2021, conducted in Department of General Surgery of Bir Hospital, National Academy of Medical Sciences, Nepal.

RESULT: Out of 64 patients ( age 18 – 64years), alcoholism and diabetes mellitus were the commonest co-morbidities, with amputation rate of 12.5% and mortality rate of 15.6%.

CONCLUSION: Necrotizing fasciitis is a life threatening condition having high mortality. So, it requires immediate diagnosis and treatment to lower the morbidity and the mortality.
