Abstract

CaroƟ d body tumor (CBT) is a rare tumor arising from caroƟ d glomus. The disease is prevalent in high alƟ tude region and it could be prevalent in a large number in Nepal mainly in hilly and mountainous regions. The tumor can mimic neck lymphnode enlargement. In a country like ours where tuberculosis is endemic, caroƟ d body tumor can be confused with neck lymph node tuberculosis and treated inappropriately. Here, we present a case of caroƟ d body tumor with mulƟ ple bone metastases, who, iniƟ ally was treated with trial anƟ tubercular treatment (ATT) without any pathological evidence of lymphnode tuberculosis. Later, her disease progressed and developed mulƟ ple bone metastases. Empirical treatment of swellings of neck with ATT should be discouraged and proper diagnosis followed by appropriate treatment should be focused.
