Abstract

Introduction: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a technique used both for diagnosis and for the treatment of biliary and pancreatic diseases. ERCP has its specificanesthetic implications and complications. The main aim of this study is to assess the anesthetic complications in our setup.

Method: Retrospective documentation and analysis of data fromNovember 2014 to November 2017of the patient’s demographic, indicationof procedure, anesthetic drug used and anesthetic complications.

Result: Total of 110 patients underwent ERCP under anesthesia during that period. Majority caseswere ASA II and III. Common complication was desaturation in 23% of casesand major cardiac events occured1.8% of cases.

Conclusion: Total intravenous anesthesia with maintenance of natural airway wasassociated 23% desaturation and with1.8% major adverse events during ERCP procedure.
